They only have the New Testament right now and can use many more books and
school supplies.

With the additional 50 orphans from Abyei, we are struggling to make this a
viable school. So please pray that we might be able to find some good
sources for books and the funds to purchase them.

system that should help prevent the common water-borne diseases and things
like cholera and dysentery. We lost one little sick boy to cholera a month
ago, and his little sister Elizabeth cries for him still.

December 2 – Pray for the team that may go with Dean, such as Dr. Katie
Buck, our medical consultant, who went with him last month to Ethiopia and
did such a great work caring for the sick and down-and-out children.

December 3 – Pray for the safety of those who are in harm’s way for the
sake of the gospel and that they might be delivered from wicked and evil
men.

December 4 – Pray for the possible Christmas present you might give to the
494 orphans in Adoor, Sudan. They are praying that more food might come to
them and medical help, as many of them suffer from worms.

December 5 (Friday) – Pray for our Board of Directors meeting. We have a
great group of people to guide and support us!

December 6 – Pray that those who have Frequent Flyer miles might donate them
to CrossWay International for our travels of our team to various ministry
locations. This is a huge part of our budget and can really help out.

December 7 – Pray for the needed food for our 494 orphans in Adoor, Sudan as
we are facing some additional costs. Also, pray that more might send us
their old jewelry so we can send it in for its gold. We have received around
$2,000 from donations of jewelry, which will buy food for one month for the
orphans, which includes one breakfast of sorghum, a hot cup of tea for
lunch, and dinner of sorghum in the evening. A special thanks to all of you
who are helping us feed them. A special thanks again to Jerry Gowen at
Green Bull Jewelry for his help with all this and for processing the gold.

December 8 – Pray for the ticket costs for Dean and Dr. Katie Buck to travel
to care for the 494 orphans. They are not well and need a doctor badly.
Tickets for each of them will run as follows: USA to Nairobi = $2000;
Nairobi to Loki = $385; Loki with 4 seater plane to Adoor = $1500 or close
to $4000 each. They plan to leave, Lord willing, on January 10.

December 9 – Pray too for the medicine costs for anti-malarial meds,
anti-worm and fungus meds, etc.

December 10 – Pray for Dean and Harry Wake, a pastor from London, who will
be working together to oversee the work of a “water distribution system” in
the village of Adoor. Total cost of this project is $32,000.

December 11- Pray for Dean as he leaves for Alabama to preach and minister
in a church and take some time off to go deer hunting.

December 12 – Pray for our new website as Joan and others work hard to
complete it and get it up and running.

December 13- Pray for Dean as he takes some time off in Alabama with Mike
and his family.

December 14- Pray for Dean as he preaches at Mike and Laurie Mozingo’s
church in Alabama. Pray that some will respond to the gospel and put their
trust in Christ alone for salvation.

December 15 – Pray for Dean as he flies back to Boerne, Texas, and that he
might have a chance to share the gospel with someone on the plane or in the
airport.

December 16 – Pray for greater boldness for all of us as we look to spending
time with various family members during the Christmas who may not yet know
Christ as their Savior. We have Christmas Tree (Scratch Me!) Tracts if you
would like some.

December 17 – Pray for our coworkers in Ethiopia, Melaku and Sosi Abebe, as
they continue their work with the English School for Evangelism and the four
Home Churches they have started bringing together on Sundays.

December 18 – Pray for Lawson Sampson and his evangelistic soccer team in
Nigeria. Also, pray for his church which he pastors.

December 19 – Pray for some young and courageous young men who might come
along side of Dean and help him oversee the work that is ongoing in Africa,
S. America, Europe, and Asia.

December 20 – Pray for the Way (Internet) Café in Guyana, as we are
relocating it to a better place. Pray for this move and its outreach to the
community.

December 21 – Pray for more laborers in God’s Harvest, as the work is great
but the laborers are few.

December 22 – Pray for the Board of Directors on the CrossWay Sudan Board
who are assisting Dean in making crucial decisions in this part of the world
and verifying the funds spent.

December 23- Pray for more opportunities to use the drilling of water wells
as a platform for sharing the gospel in the 45 targeted villages in Africa:
Southern Sudan, Kenya, Nigeria, Liberia, Ghana, and Tanzania.

December 25 – Pray that many might come to learn the significance of how
heaven was torn when the Messiah entered the world as Savior (Isa. 64:1).

December 26 – Pray for a clear gospel presentation of grace to all those who
come in contact with each of us during this season, that through simply
trusting in Jesus Christ, each of us can have the full assurance of the
forgiveness of all our sins.

December 27- Pray that the gospel might spread swiftly, not only among our
family but also through out the whole world, and that it might be honored
even as it is among us.

December 28 – Pray for Capt. Micah Chollar, Dean and Joan’s youngest son who
is in the Air Force, as he is now in a supervisory role over the Pilot
Instructors at Laughlin AFB in Del Rio. A special praise too as this will
give him a bit more time at home with Heather and their 3 kids.

December 29 – Pray for Rachel and Jeremy Beasley and their two daughters and his work.

December 30 – Pray for Dean and Joan’s youngest daughter, Bethany, as she is
expecting once again and has a 6 month old little boy, Troy.

December 31 – Pray for Jason and Danica Chollar as they have an autistic
little boy, Aaron, who is truly a handful.

We just heard from one of our managers of the orphans in Sudan that one
small child just died from cholera. We are praying that the others will be
spared.

Please stop for just a minute and pray that the Lord will protect the other
orphans. Dean is not planning on going until January with a pediatrician,
Dr. Katie Buck.

We do need to say a couple things about it.

Green Bull Jewelry in Boerne (Jerry Gowen) is taking over our gold and
precious metal processing instead of Q-Financial. This is for the Old
Jewelry for the Orphans project mentioned in the last two prayer letters.
We want to give a special thank you for Jerry and his work in this area, as
we have received to date close to $1000 in old jewelry.

Also, just a quick update and praise for our plans to go to Ethiopia this
Nov. 12-20. I will be going with Dr. Katie Buck (MD), Susan Buchanan (RN),
and Steve Buchanan to set up our medical clinic in Meki, Ethiopia. Even
though we have had only two months to plan for this mission trip, we have
already received close to $6,000 of the needed $14,000. We are thankful for
this and look to the Lord for the rest.

Please pray with us that the additional amount will come in to cover our
other costs, such as medicine and construction materials to renovate the
building. In addition, we’re praying that Bob Nicol (CrossWay’s Engineering
Consultant) and Sandy Watts (CrossWay’s Import/Export Consultant) will be
able to make it on this trip to assist in the development of our ministry in
Ethiopia.

The situation in Sudan is alarming, and I’d like to bring you up to date on
the news. Floods are inundating the area that could displace many people
this month (and possibly next month, too). The people of the village of
Adoor, Sudan are working tirelessly to build a dike to hold back the floods
so they won’t have to move. Also, a cholera outbreak is claiming many
lives, as well as malaria, snakes and water-borne diseases.

Please pray for God’s intervention in all these problems.

The immediate needs are as follows:

* Prayers for the victims affected by cholera, malaria,
water-borne diseases, snakes, and God’s provision for more food and more
mosquito nets.
* Anti-malarial medicines.
* Anti-diarrhea medicines.
* Anti-worm medicines
* Antibiotics and water-borne disease medicines
* Tents for those whose huts have fallen down
* More blankets
* Fishing equipment

We are excited to kick off a new project to put a smile on the face of many
orphans. As you may know, we have some 495 orphans (the CrossWay Kids) in
Sudan, mostly from the Darfur region (see www.gocrossway.org). They have
very limited or no medical care, a worn set of shorts and shirt, no shoes
and zero school to attend. I just heard recently, too, that some 5 children
in a nearby village died from cholera this past week (August 12, 2008).

One way you might be able to help is to prayerfully consider giving your
unwanted jewelry to CrossWay International so we can melt it down and refine
it. We have a financial institute ready to do all of this for us free of
charge. A simple gold ring or bracelet or necklace can bring hundreds of
dollars on the open market. Those involved in this kind of work are ready to
assist us, but we need your help. All we need is some old jewelry. Perhaps
you could check your jewelry box or drawers and see what you can find? Why
not send your treasures ahead of you to heaven where moths and rust do not
destroy and thieves do not steal.

Here’s a list of gold and silver jewelry we’re looking for:

too)

I just got a call yesterday from Moses, our overseer of the orphans in Sudan
and he said that 5 children in a village near them have died from cholera.
Please pray that the Lord will not allow this to spread to the village of
Adoor. Also, we are in the process of buying 495 blankets. Pray that this
transaction goes through smoothly and that the orphans get their blankets
this week.

Minimal US Embassy Staffing/ Departure of UN Dependents

This Warden Message alerts U.S. citizens that the United Nations has ordered
the departure of dependent family members from Sudan, and that the U.S.
Embassy will operate with minimal staffing on July 14. U.S. citizens are
reminded that the Department of State continues to warn against all travel
to Sudan. The U.S. Embassy may adjust future staffing and office hours
depending on the security situation. The consular section will be open for
emergency American Citizen Services only.

Media is speculating that the International Criminal Court (ICC) may
announce judicial actions against senior officials of the Government of
Sudan in the near future. The ICC is an independent institution, and the
United States is not involved in the ICC legal process. The US Embassy is
concerned, however, that if the ICC in fact announces actions, protests
against the ICC and civil disturbances may occur.

Armed conflict between government forces and various armed militias
continues and could potentially occur anywhere in Sudan. American citizens
who choose to travel to Sudan despite the existing Travel Warning, and those
who remain in Sudan, should review their security posture and take
appropriate precautions. Additionally, American citizens already in Sudan
should monitor news reports and keep sufficient provisions on hand to
sustain themselves for several days should the need arise.

U.S. citizens living or traveling in Sudan despite the existing Travel
Warning should register their presence in Sudan with the nearest U.S.
Embassy or Consulate through the Department of State's website,
travel.state.gov, to obtain updated information regarding travel and
security within Sudan. By registering, American citizens make it easier for
the Embassy to contact them in case of an emergency.

This graphic word-picture illustrates adequately the condition we face in
Sudan. Many of the orphans we have "inherited" are infected with various
kinds of worms (pin-, tape-, and screw-worms) from years of contaminated
drinking water. Thanks to the many of you who support CrossWay
International, they now have clean drinking water from the water wells you
helped to provide, but the worms had already taken hold.

I just spoke to our administrator/overseer (Moses) in the village of Adoor,
Sudan. He has informed me that we now have 495 orphans (The CrossWay Kids),
and many of these have such parasites. The first 150 orphans were abandoned
by the Arab Muslims from the north who did not want them, as they were the
offspring from captured women from southern Sudan. These women and girls
had been taken as slaves, and the Arab Muslims did not want the resulting
children. So they bring them back down south and abandon them. The rest of
the orphans have come from the Darfur region, which is very close to this
village, located in the military corridor between northern and southern
Sudan. Things in this area are getting worse, and we have inherited some of
this fallout. I have told Moses not to take on any more kids until we can
get these in better shape.

We have some support for minimal food supplies. In fact, they bought 2
goats today to slaughter so the kids could have some small portion of meat
along with the sorghum which they eat for breakfast and supper. Hot tea, and
no food, is all that is offered for lunch right now.

Please pray for us as we attempt to help where we can, as we look to the
Lord for his provision and leading. Pray also for the CrossWay Sudan Board
which will meet for the first time today (June 30), and for Moses, the
overseer of the CrossWay Kids, and his assistant, Gabriel.

Keep in mind these two sayings:
1. You can't help everyone with everything but you can help someone with
something.
And
2. Sympathy is no substitute for action.
