September 1 – Pray for those who trusted in Christ on our last trip to Nicaragua in August. We had 29 who indicated they had made such a decision through the preaching of Merle Admire and Dean. Pray also for the 30 pastors who attended our Pastors’ Conference and for a greater understanding of God’s tremendous grace.

September 2 – Pray for Bob Nicol and Merle Admire, our 2 new Regional Directors who are heading up our new division, CrossWay Water for Life. Check out their brochures and prayer letters on our main website under the “Who Are We” tab or go to:

September 3 – Pray for Robert and Ann Messier as they pray about an appointment to become our representatives to the country of Nicaragua. Robert has been appointed to become the Director of this Country as our American component to help us oversee God’s expanding ministry in this country.

September 4 – Pray for our upcoming Board of Directors meeting in October and the many decisions we will face. We have 12 Directors now, and God has given us many gifted individuals from different walks of life.

September 5- Pray for Dean as he updates and challenges hearts at Wayside Chapel in San Antonio with many of their old friends.

September 6 – Pray for our tax-exempt status in Kenya, as we have shipped some expensive drilling equipment and a rig to this country. We received our registration as a non-profit organization last month, and we now want to pursue Phase Two in this process and hope to save some dollars with the tax-exempt status.

September 7 – Pray for our 549 orphans in Sudan and those who care for them on the field: the managers, teachers, guards, cooks, and cleaning ladies.  Pray that God might continue to bring in the needed support.  Much of this comes in through our CrossWay Coffee Ministry and the work of Sherry Zule, the manager over this ministry. Remember, friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks!

September 8 -It’s Dean’s birthday! No, don’t send Dean the new expensive hunting rifle he has always wanted.  Instead, consider a donation to CrossWay International and designate it for our orphans in Sudan.  J And pray for the crops they are growing to help feed these orphans.

September 9 – Pray for our Field Director, Ken Gatithi, in Kenya as we set up our office in Nairobi, and also for Geoffrey Ndungu, our superintendent of the water well drilling team we are setting up for that region. Also, Ken and his wife, Winnie, expect a second child in a few months.

September 10 – Pray for Rafael (and Darling) Rivas.  He is our Field Director for Central America and is assisting us in lining up Pastors’ Conferences, which are sorely needed in this area, and also the drilling of water wells.

September 11 – Pray for Dean as he climbs on a plane again to head to Phoenix and for the opportunities he has to share Christ with those he encounters.

September 12 – Pray for Dean as he preaches at our supporting church in Arizona and challenges hearts to partner in our ministry even more than they already have.

September 13 – Dean flies back to Texas and asks for prayers for safety and opportunities to share his faith in Christ.

September 14 -Pray for the CrossWay Good News Cube we are developing.  We think it will be a great tool for those interested in a simple and clear gospel presentation to use. We will send out more on this when it is completed.

September 16 – Pray for Francisco (and Jasmine) Caldera, our newly appointed Nicaraguan Field Director  for this country, as he works closely with Rafa Rivas and Robert Messier in developing plans to reach out to Nicaragua.

September 17—Pray for the children of the world who go to bed without enough food, clean water and access to hearing the gospel in Meki, Ethiopia.  Pray also for our Field Director, Melaku Abebe.

September 18 – Pray for Dean as he climbs once again into a plane to travel to the West Palm Beach, Florida area to report into a supporting church and minister in the pulpit.

September 19 – Pray for Dean as he preaches at both worship services and teaches the combined Adult Sunday School Classes.  Pray that it might be a good time of fellowship with some old friends.

September 20 – Pray for Dean as he heads back to Texas to prepare for the upcoming Board of Directors meeting of CrossWay International and finalize plans for his trip to Kenya, Ethiopia, and Sudan.

September 21 – Pray for Phil Myers, a very qualified Bible teacher who is praying about visiting our school and orphans in Sudan. Pray for the Lord to provide the cost for such a trip.

September 22 – Pray for the development of much of our work into Spanish.  Robert Messier is spearheading this with the help of our neighbor, Rudy Hernandez, and our Field Director for Central America, Rafa Rivas.

September 23 – Pray for Fernando Diaz in Spain as we look into how best to involve him in Central America where he has some ongoing work as well.

September 24 – Pray for Lawson Sampson in Nigeria where we planted one church, and for his ongoing soccer ministry which he uses effectively for evangelism.

September 25 – Pray for our coworker, Malcolm Harris in Liberia, as he struggles with hardship in this impoverished area of the world.

September 26 – Pray for Kristina Kolerich, a former reporter in the Chicago area who is helping us in raising awareness of our story and ministry through various media outlets.

September 27- Pray for our staff in the USA as we face many challenges to keep the office running smoothly. There are a number of personal unspoken requests that we would like you to bring before the Lord concerning family issues.

September 28 – Pray for our 12 Directors here in the USA, that they might continue to be more and more engaged in the work and offer their skills and wisdom to the ministry.

September 29- Pray for your own church and its emphasis to reach out to the lost. It’s easy to become ingrown and lose the focus of the New Testament to take the gospel to the ends of the world. (Acts 1:8)

September 30 – Pray for Bruce McIntosh, our coworker and professional Christian Counselor.  He is coming to visit our staff and other missionaries from October 1 – 3 to assist us in evaluating typical issues that arise among staff members and missionaries that are common and yet unique to this kind of work. Pray that he might have a productive visit.

August 2010 Crossway Prayer Calendar

Prayer Calendar for Dean and Joan Chollar and Crossway International
August 2010
www.gocrossway.org

No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he
requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with
your God.
–Micah 6:8, NLT

August 1– Pray for Dean as he will be preaching in Stanwood, Washington in
the church where Jason, his son, serves as the Worship Pastor.  Pray that
hearts will be challenged.

August 2 – Pray for Dean as he returns from Washington, and that God might
bring him in to contact with someone who needs Christ.

August 3 – Pray for Bob Nicol, our Engineer for our new branch ministry
within CrossWay International, the CrossWay Water for Life (water well
drilling ministry). We are looking to the Lord for his personal support and
costs for such things as traveling to Kenya to receive our new drilling rig
which is being shipped in a large container.  Also, we have around $55,000
of the needed $65,000 to complete Phase One of this ministry. The $10,000
lacking is for shipping costs, some other equipment, and materials and set
up costs in Kenya.  (To read more about this ministry, please go to
http://gocrossway.org/whatsnew/crossway-water-for-life/

August 4 – Continue to pray for our 549 orphans in Sudan. The 15 which had
malaria have all recovered, and support for their food supply is drawing
down.  But they are now harvesting some of their own food which they have
grown.

August 5 – Pray for Merle Admire, our Master Electrician, who is working
with our water well drilling ministry as he considers focusing a bit more in
Central America. (See prayer request on Aug. 10, too)

August 6 – Pray for greater boldness for each of us as we have opportunity
to share the free gift of salvation through faith in Christ alone.

August 7 – Pray for Bruce McIntosh; he is looking to the Lord for His
guidance and support to serve as a missionary with us and serve as a
Christian Counselor and teacher at our Pastors’ Conferences.

August 8 – Pray for Rafa Rivas, our Field Director for Central America, and
the critical role he has in our ministry in setting up pastors’ conferences
and evangelistic efforts. Pray too for his support needs, as he is a
faith-based missionary… as are all with CrossWay International.

August 9 — Pray for Francisco Caldera, whom we hope to appoint as our
Nicaragua Field Director to work with Rafa Rivas, our Central America Field
Director. He would assist Rafa in setting up evangelistic efforts and head
up our water well drilling ministry there.

August 10 – 16 – Pray for Dean and the mission trip to Nicaragua with 3
pastors and Merle Admire. We will be conducting a pastors’ conference and
researching other evangelistic possibilities, as well as opportunities for
some water well drilling in this area.  Rafa and Francisco will be assisting
us.

August 17 – Pray for more laborers for our evangelistic work in the various
countries in which we are active. The Harvest is great but the laborers are
few.

August 18 – Pray for our coworkers in Sudan who care for our 549 orphans:
Managers, Pastors Samuel and Moses; 10 teachers for our school; Committee of
5 who oversee the funds, and the cleaning ladies and guards.

August 19 – Pray for the physical harvest of crops in Sudan to help feed the
orphans this year and that they might be able to assume more and more
responsibility as we make efforts to move them to a self-sustaining
position. Pray for the spiritual harvest as well.

August 20 – Pray for more opportunities for each one of us to share the
gospel of God’s grace and the free gift of eternal life through trusting in
Christ alone.

August 21 – Pray for Ken Gatithi, our manager of our ministry in Kenya who
is overseeing the development of our water well drilling ministry in
northeast Africa. His wife, Winnie, is expecting in a few months, so he has
his plate full!

August 22 – Pray for Dean as he preaches at NW Church in San Antonio and
challenges hearts for missions and evangelism.

August 23 – Pray for Geoffrey Ndungu, our superintendent of the field work
of drilling water wells in Kenya and surrounding countries. He recently lost
his wife and has two teenage kids.

August 24 – Pray for our NGO status in Kenya so we might legally function in
this country and possibly get tax-exempt privileges to help us do even more
for the Lord’s work.

August 25 – Pray for Sherry Zule, the manager over our CrossWay Coffee
Ministry.  She works very hard to help us raise awareness for our ministry
needs, especially for the needs of the orphans, and looks to the Lord to
raise up the needed funds. This ministry continues to provide a large
portion of this need for our orphans. Thank you to all who order our coffee
(www.crosswaycoffee.org

August 26 – Pray for our many supporting churches and for our many prayer
partners who give generously to keep us moving forward. We make a great team
and couldn’t do what God allows us to do without this team work.

August 27 – Pray for the clarity of the gospel, that we who trust in Christ
might clearly convey the gospel, the fact that all our sins are freely
forgiven when one puts their trust in Christ alone, who died for our sins
and rose again.

August 28 – Pray for the various pastors’ conferences on the drawing board
for the coming year, which we hope to develop alongside of our evangelistic
outreach events.

August 29 – Pray for Fernando Diaz and his work in Spain and Central America
and how we might work more effectively together in the coming year.

August 30 – Pray for the spreading of the gospel and the safety of those who
take the gospel into difficult and hostile areas of the world.

August 31 – Pray for someone you know right now who needs to hear the
message of God’s love and grace and how God might use you as an instrument
in His hand.

Water for Life crew taking drilling rig to Kenya

CrossWay International’s new CrossWay Water For Life program is sending a water well drilling rig to Kenya for work in the eastern province of Kenya, where the need for clean water is critical. CrossWay International’s CrossWay Water for Life ministry is shipping a Hill Country water well drilling rig to Kenya to bring fresh, clean water to rural areas in that country’s impoverished eastern province.

Since the Boerne-based international ministry began the Water for Life ministry, volunteers have helped drill three wells in Sudan. According to ministry founder Dean R. Chollar, Jr., the work in Kenya will include areas near Nairobi and Mombasa.

When the equipment arrives in Mombasa in about a month to six weeks, the drilling team of Bob Nicol and Merle Admire will travel there to work with the ministry’s onsite manager and crew. An engineer with 32 years of general and specialized engineering experience, Nicol has overseen drilling operations for the three water wells in Sudan.

“We will drill the wells and open the door for Dean (Chollar) to come and preach,” Nicol said, adding the ministry’s service is the best form of outreach.

“We ask the local communities to provide accommodations for us in their homes,” Nicol said. “We will work together, live together and worship together.”

Chollar said he was in Kenya in April working with a church in Mombasa where CrossWay Water for Life drilled a well last year that now serves the church and surrounding community. Through CrossWay International, Chollar travels extensively throughout Europe, Asia, Eurasia, Central America, and South America. Commissioned as a missionary with Greater Europe Mission in 1984. His work expanded through Europe and he founded CrossWay International in 1997 in response to invitations to serve beyond Europe. The ministry was headquartered in San Antonio until 2005, then moved to Boerne.

According to the Crossway International website, www.gocrossway.org, the ministry uses both humanitarian aid and income-generating projects as platforms for spreading the gospel. Humanitarian aid includes care and feeding of orphans, drilling water wells and setting up water distribution systems, and establishing medical clinics. Income generating projects include English schools, Internet cafes, Christian resource centers, delivery services, the CrossWay Coffee Ministry, and farming and raising of livestock.

Nicol said pumps and other equipment for the wells are available in Kenya, including components for hand-operated and solar-powered units.

“We’re looking at some wind power, too,” Nicol said. “There’s a company in Nairobi where we can get windmill systems.”

So, it’s possible Hill Country-style windmills will dot Kenya hillsides in the future.

“Our motto is ‘Drill, baby drill,’” Chollar said.
