Where is Riamugaa?

If you want to go to google maps and take a look at the area we are talking about for yourself, you can just search for “Riamugaa Shopping Center”. https://goo.gl/maps/f6xmCKSGxdT927vs6  The “Shopping Center” is a little different than what you might be picturing if you are from a developped country.  In this case it is a row of half a dozen shacks made of corrugated metal panels along the main road with some make shift “tables” made from scrap wood in order to show off a few basic supplies that are for sale.

Riamugaa is a small, poor, densely populated area in rural Kenya. It is located about 115 miles NE of Nairobi – just 5 miles from our HQ in Sagana.

Between 2,000-3,000 live here: around 400 households with an average of size of 5-8 people each.
We expect the neighbors to be helped by this project as well.

What is the plan?

  1. Add a second tank

We want to make sure the whole community can get water.  The one tank we had was simply not big enough for this number of people.

  1. Decrease long lines by increasing Watering Points

We want to double the number of access points from 4 faucets at 2 locations, to 8 faucets in 3? 4? Locations.

  1. Add bathrooms and sinks

Currently the fortunate households in the community have dug their own pit latrines in the dirt.  When it rains, however, the rain in the town, combined with the runoff from the nearby hill usually floods the town with the waste and has to be re-dug each time.

The plan is to install an underground biodigester system (to deal with the waste) and a community bathroom facility with a cement foundation, so it it doesn’t wash away, with 12 toilet stalls and 2 sinks, with access to clean water and soap.

It isn’t running water and a private bathroom in each house, like we are used to – but it is a huge step up for this community and has the potential to have life-long health and prosperity benefits for the entire community for years to come.

Lots of potential education time is lost for children due to sickness.  Same with employment opportunity for their parents.

We are confident that this is going to have a transformational impact on this community.

This gives us a wide open door to share the good news of Jesus’ love for us, and the gift He gave of his own life to save them from their sins and give them purpose and meaning and abundant, eternal life both now and forever.

Costs

So far, we have raised $6,613 and completed the installation of the underground biodigester and the foundation for the bathroom building.
We are hoping to raise $8,569 more.

$3,650 by March 15th to get the roof and walls up, and then $4,919 more by April 1st to finish out the project.

Right now, we are in a time crunch, hoping to raise $3,650 as soon as possible in order to complete this next phase of the project before the seasonal rains start in mid March.  Then the investments we have made so far in the project will be protected and we will have shelter to be able to continue the project, even in the rain, as the Lord provides the remainder of the money needed.

As the progress is made on the project, we will be sending pictures so you can see for yourself the impact that your donation is having.

A coworker of ours, Bob Hamilton, is planning on visiting in April, and Lord willing, I myself will be visiting Riamugaa in person later this year.

Would you consider making a contribution specifically to help us complete this project?
