January 2021 Prayer Update:

How to Pray for CrossWay International

Sorry for the delay

I (Jason) had an email all ready to go when the server crashed last Friday and lost all of my work (must remember to save more often!) - and then I got sick, see below.  Thanks for your patience and continued prayers! - Jason

Safety and Health of our National and International Team

  • Jason has lab confirmed covid19. He has been sick since Sunday, January 3rd but is recovering well.  Please pray for his quick and full recovery.
  • Dean and Joan are doing their best to avoid getting it. Please pray for their continued health and safety.
  • Both Moses in Kenya and Kevin in Nicaragua and their families have endured sickness with symptoms like covid19, but with no availability of testing, it is hard to know for sure.

Hurricane Relief Wrap Up in Nicaragua

We were able to help hundreds of families with emergency relief supplies of basic necessities like rice, beans, soap, toilet paper, ... As the floods recede and the roads are repaired, now comes the more complex task of rebuilding.

In addition to these basic supplies, we were able to share the gospel with many new faces.  Pray for our team as they try to follow up and assess next steps.

New School Year at CrossWay TecNica in Nicaragua

In many countries, calendar year and school year go together.  This is the month for school registrations in Nicaragua.  Pray for many students to sign up for classes in English and Computers, not just so they are able to better provide for their families because of their better education - but also so that they have increased exposure to the Gospel of Grace, and to our team who can disciple them!

Banners and advertisements will be up soon!

Food Supply Deliveries to Widows in Kenya

Economic times continue to be very difficult in Kenya, especially in the rural regions like where our headquarters is.  It is still not safe to have large groups of widows come together for encouragement, prayer and to hand out supplies - so Moses and John and our team in Kenya continue to make trips to bring resources directly to them.

Mobile Phones for Widows in Kenya

One new strategy we are employing is to provide an inexpensive cell phone to the widows, along with the food supplies.  Almost everyone in Kenya has a cell phone, even the poor.  Only the poorest of the poor don't.  Why give $20-$30 flip phones to poor widows?

  • Audio Bible: we have the whole Bible and some teachings available on memory cards, and combined with the speakerphone, even the widows who are unable to read (often due to a combination of poor education and/or eyesight) are able to listen to the truth of God's word every day!
  • Bank Account: The MPESA system allows people to send funds back and forth and purchase and sell supplies with simple text messages from any mobile phone. Having a cell phone is like automatically having access to a bank account, which makes it much easier for us and their families to send them assistance if they need it.
  • Communication: Many of these widows live in very remote areas where it is hard to check on them. Having a cell phone makes it much easier to provide care and encouragement and allows them to call and check in on each other and encourage one another.

Sewing Training Ministry for Young Widows in Kenya

Some of the younger widows are eager to resume their sewing training, so carefully and in compliance with local guidelines and regulations, we are considering starting to hold sewing classes again.  Please pray for wisdom and safety as we carefully begin this project again.

Future Outreach Projects?

Pray for all of our teams as we consider future potential outreach projects like rain harvest tanks for schools, milk-goats and chickens for widows, etc.  There is always more need.  How can we make the biggest impact?  Where is God asking us to work?  How can we explain the gospel more clearly and get the word out more widely about God's wonderful offer of salvation for anyone who believes?  Pray for wisdom and God's leading.

Future International Travel

Pray for our US team for wisdom and timing on when International Travel might be able to resume.  The US State Department still has warnings and urges us to reconsider before traveling to either of these countries.  The airport is Nicaragua is still closed from what we understand, and international travel is severely limited everywhere.  We want to be bold but also wise. Please pray for God's leading and timing.
