Dear brothers and sisters, Would you please pray for Moses Gatura and John Gatuku?

Background:
A couple of months ago, while researching Christian approaches to poverty, I came across the book “If you really want to help” by Kurt Kandler.  As I continued my research, several sources including Crown Ministries referenced, an organization called “Foundations for Farming”. They teach conservation agriculture and sustainability using a foundation of biblical principles to help people maximize the abundance of their farms.  Some studies show up to an 8 fold increase in yield compared to other techniques – and not just for 1 season, but season after season in a sustainable way.  It sounded fascinating and the more I read, the more convinced I became that this could make a HUGE difference, especially in the lives of the widows we serve in Kenya.

Result: Moses and John are in Zimbabwe!
I found out that they do 2 main trainings per year, one week each, and they still had openings for the one happening this very week!  I jumped on the opportunity and had Moses update his passport and John Gatuku get his first passport ever – and sent them on their way!

Moses & John at the Airport!

They have very limited time or communication access, but Moses’ report so far is this:

"We are well and doing marathon training but it's great. We have learned a lot and expect to do more. It's very applicable even in areas like ours and for the widows if they embrace this kind of farming. With a very small plot you feed a family of 6 with maize or beans for a full year. This is a real game changer. I love it and will make good use of it at my place for demonstrating (the techniques).”

Prayer Items

Pray for understanding and retention.
They are learning a LOT in a very short amount of time.  Pray that the Lord opens their minds and helps them to remember what they are being taught!

Pray for God’s divine Provision.
We have had quite a few unexpected costs hit recently, for example, the water pump at our HQ in Kenya burning out, needing to be replaced, and the borehole needing to be “flushed out”.  We’ve had to dip into our emergency buffer – and I was hoping to slowly replenish – but then this opportunity came up.  I would normally try to raise the funds BEFORE pulling the trigger – but I was already on the road and felt this was just too important of an opportunity to miss.

So, we have now spent an extra $3,000 more than we anticipated.  I am super excited about sending our team of Kenyans to get this training so they can pass it along to their network, but I hope I haven’t overextended us! Anyhow, would you pray that the Lord would continue to provide?
And should you want to participate yourself, you can always designate your gift towards “Zimbabwe Trip” – and we can apply your gift to this project.

I’m looking forward to sending a more full report once they return.

Meanwhile, I sincerely thank you for your prayers!

I believe they matter!

“…and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses
entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also!”
2 Timothy 2:2 ESV

Thanks for your prayers!
